Youth Servant Leadership

“Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must
be your servant…”
Matthew 20:26
Camp Selah is excited to offer a program tied closely with our currently existing summer camp program: Youth Servant Leadership (Psi Sigma Lambda, or the YSL program). The YSL program offers participants training in many different areas of camp ministry, not just counseling. The purpose of the YSL program is to, each year, further develop servant’s hearts in several young men and women and equip them with various skills that will be specifically useful in filling leadership roles at camp.

As a YSL, you will have the opportunity to grow in your knowledge of different life skills as you assist in maintenance projects and counseling, have involvement in food service, program planning, waterfront safety and basic first aid training. You will also grow in your knowledge of different biblical principles specifically geared to the program through in-depth Bible study, prayer, journaling and small group discussion. Camp Selah’s core staff will have the privilege of allowing each YSL to shadow them throughout different parts of the day, giving them a hands-on approach to their various responsibilities.

When a completed application is returned to Camp Selah, it will be reviewed by camp leadership and considered for acceptance. Three letters of recommendation from references will be required and must be mailed in separately. Those references will be contacted by phone for a short interview before a decision will be made. Applicants will receive notification on or before April 1st. Spaces are limited! (3 males, 3 females)

Cost : Although it costs Camp Selah to run and maintain the YSL program, there will be no additional cost for those accepted into the program. If the full 5 weeks are completed, we will offer the participants their week of high school camp free.

Myths Dispelled:

The YSL program…

…is NOT designed to turn a lump of coal into a diamond. It IS designed to take a rock, chip off the rough edges and form a good foundation stone for Camp Selah or any other ministry.

…is NOT a ticket to hangout time at camp all summer. It IS going to be physically and spiritually challenging!

…is NOT the solution to getting all of the “dirty work” done around camp. It IS a correct picture of the great importance of every part of ministry and, ultimately, the body of Christ.

…is NOT just a summer job. It IS an opportunity to become more intimate in your relationship with Christ through serving Him.

…is NOT for the half-hearted. It IS for those who are serious about growing spiritually and working hard while worshipping the Lord.
